In the previous financial year, SHSRC-Kerala initiated the revamping of the Public Health Cadre. Several rounds of meetings were held, and an official draft proposal was submitted to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS). Based on the feedback received, the proposal was revised multiple times. The final revised version was sent to the DHS during this financial year.
The latest draft was further reviewed by the DHS and the Additional Chief Secretary. It was recommended that a committee be formed to examine the proposal in more detail. The committee subsequently held meetings and introduced further revisions. During these discussions, it was decided that certain elements required greater clarity, particularly regarding the core objectives and focus areas of the proposed Public Health Cadre. The key points raised during the DHS-level meeting were also discussed in detail to ensure alignment and coherence.
SHSRC-Kerala has requested the DHS to consider that the Public Health Cadre proposal cannot be effectively modified without input from the DHS's planning division and the MHA, as determining the required human resource count is essential.
To address this, SHSRC-Kerala has proposed a collaborative drafting meeting. They emphasized that a meeting is necessary to move forward with the proposal and suggested including officials from the DHS, ADHS, Planning Division, Medical & Hospital Administration Division, Deputy DHS, Assistant DHS, JAMO, as well as members of the Public Health Cadre committee and the SHSRC-Kerala team. SHSRCKerala has also stated that they will undertake further revisions on their part following this meeting.
