Implementation Framework for Integrating AYUSH Interventions into the School Health & Wellness Programme in Kerala

State Health Systems Resource Centre–Kerala (SHSRC-K), in collaboration with the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), Kerala, is conducting a study titled “Implementation Framework for Integrating AYUSH Interventions into the School Health & Wellness Programme in Kerala.” The study aims to develop, pilot, and refine an implementation framework for integrating AYUSH interventions into the School Health & Wellness Programme (SHWP) in Kerala, and to assess its feasibility and preliminary outcomes in selected districts.

As part of the study, an initial meeting with key stakeholders was held on 01 January 2026 to discuss the scope and possibilities for integrating AYUSH interventions within the existing School Health & Wellness Programme. Following this, a stakeholder consultative meeting was conducted at SHSRC-K on 26 February 2026 to explore opportunities for convergence between two existing school health initiatives—Ayurvidya, implemented under the National AYUSH Mission, and Aksharam Arogyam, a strengthened initiative of the School Health Programme under Ayushman Bharat.

The discussions enabled a detailed review of the ongoing activities under both initiatives and helped identify potential areas for collaboration and convergence. Following this, a Common Minimum Programme was formulated, aiming to transform schools into health-promoting institutions through a structured and integrated model that ensures the holistic health and well-being of students by drawing upon the interventions and expertise available under both the Ayurvidya project and the Aksharam Arogyam programme.
